Tamper Detectors & Impact Detectors

Was I bumped, if so, how hard?

Hummingbird Electronics manufactures a range of rugged, calibration-free electronic tamper detectors and impact detectors. Tamper detectors are typically used to sound an alarm when a stationary vehicle is moved without the ignition being turned on. Impact detectors measure G-forces exerted on equipment and trigger an alarm if acceptable levels are exceeded.

Powerful Performance

Designed for harsh automotive environments, the modules feature transient voltage protection on the supply and short circuit protected outputs.

Tamper detectors measure small variations in tilt, height or position typically associated with movement. Two outputs are provided for varying sensitivity. Upon detecting a variance exceeding the low threshold, a normally low output will go high. A second output will go high if forces exceeding the high thresold are detected.

Impact detectors measure harsh accelerations and braking associated with strong bumps, knocks and crashes. Two outputs are provided, each with varying thresholds. Upon detecting G forces in excess of the lower threshold, the low sensitivity output will go high (and the LED will light), and then at the higher threshold, the harsh sensitivity output will go high. The outputs will remain high for 30 seconds and then will return to 0V for at least 1 second before a further event is allowed.

The tamper detector or impact detector would typically be connected to a relay which would drive a buzzer or light as a warning to the driver.

Both tamper and impact detectors are available with high current outputs to allow direct connection to a relay or other device.

When power is applied, the red light will light whilst the unit is performing self-test and calibration activities – this will typically last for 15 seconds.

Rugged Hardware

Both the tamper detector and impact detectors are supplied in a rugged ABS plastic enclosure that is completely waterproof. Provision for screw mounting when required is provided.

Power to the unit and switch outputs are provided through colour coded wires.
