Hummingbird's Accident Detector is an impact sensor that has been optimised to detect forces typical of those involved in vehicle accidents. Additional rollover detection has also been incorporated. The units are designed to trigger an alarm when a side or front impact is detected or when the vehicle lands upside down.

Hummingbird's Accident Detector measures G-forces in all three dimensions and is able to detect a horizontal impact at any angle to the vehicle. The horizontal impact trigger is activated if the vehicle experiences an impact resulting in a force of 10G or more.
Rollover detection is achieved using an integrated tilt sensor. To ensure the minimum number of false alarms, the tilt sensor is heavily damped so that driving on poor roads will not cause a false alarm.
Two trigger outputs are provided. If an impact event is detected, the green LED will light and the blue wire will go from 0V to the input voltage. If a rollover event is detected, the red LED will light and the green wire will go from 0V to the input voltage. Assuming that the event that caused the trigger is no longer present, the trigger outputs will return to 0V and the LEDs will go off after approximately 20 seconds.
To indicate correct operation, the red LED will pulse for a second approximately every 10 seconds. This is not an alarm event.
Designed for harsh automotive environments, the module features transient voltage protection on the supply and short circuit protected outputs.
Accident detectors are supplied in a rugged ABS plastic enclosure. All sensitive exectronics are coated with a silicon compound to prevent water damage.
Provision for screw mounting when required is provided.
Power to the unit and pulse outputs are provided through four colour coded wires.
